Mamuthone, original painting acrylic on canvas, 70 x 100 cm
Born in Sardinia, the artist "Gepetto" studied art and illustration at the Istituto d'Arte in Bologna and has since worked as a painter and illustrator in his studio in Cagliari. With deep pride and passion for his island, he painted a series of Sardinian impressions, including the acrylic painting "Mamuthone".
The town of Mamoiada in Sardinia is home to one of the most archaic and gloomy carnival customs of Barbagia - the land where Sardinia has long preserved its originality - which is said to date back to the Phoenician water cult. The protagonists of the spectacle are Mamuthones. Shaggy and ponderous primeval beings with heavy chimes and black masks.
